My two best friends both want to be doctors, one is studying medicine and the other wants to do radiography at uni come september.
The fact that I am the friend that does fashion makes me sound like the thick one, but Im not. I am really intelligent and have always got good grades, sure I could have done medicine but I love fashion too much. I had to do fashion. I was born for fashion.
What I love about being at uni is everyone feels the way I do about fashion. For once people know what I am taking about and will have a conversation about it. I remember in 6th form when McQueen died people didn’t even know who he was! I felt so alien. It isn’t exactly like somebody such as Holly Fulton or Alber Elbaz had died, because I wouldn’t expect them to know who that is, but McQueen?! Really?! He is the reason everybody has been wearing hipster jeans for the past 15 years. Bumsters, Hello?!
Fashion is a major contributor to the economy. Fashion isn’t just clothes, it’s your hairstyle, the music you listen too, what you watch on TV. I find it so weird when this amazing concept doesn’t even slightly interest people. Not even those who do psychology. Surely the strong psychological factor that surrounds the concept of fashion would be a very interesting study, yet nobody has explored it. It is almost as if fashion is invisible and only certain people are able to see it.
As Anna Wintour said,
"I think what I often see is that people are frightened about fashion. Because it scares them or makes them feel insecure they just put it down. On the whole people that may say, the mean things about our world I think that’s usually because they feel, in some ways, excluded or, you know, not a part of ‘the cool group’ so as a result they just mock it. Just because you like to put on a beautiful Carolina Herrera dress or a pair of J Brand blue jeans instead of something basic from K-Mart it doesn’t mean that you’re a dumb person. There is something about fashion that can make people really nervous."
