What does your bag say about you?

Today I had my first lecture on Branding. Our lecturer, Neil Boorman, was talking about the ways in which people create themselves as a brand and how people use brands to create their own identity. One of the things we will be doing in our lectures is seeing what people have in each others bags. We will look at how that defines them and how many different brands they have in their bag.

I took a picture of my bag and its contents for you all too see. The bags itself is Mulberry, with a Peter Pilotto for Kipling purse, Ray Ban glasses, a Blackberry with a Cath Kidston phone case and one of my MAC lipsticks. I never really realised how much the brands I own play such a huge part in my identity.

Neil Boorman himself suffered from Obsessive Brand Disorder, and underwent therapy which involved burning all of his hundreds of branded items. It really took over his life. For those of you not as fortunate to hear his story and experience first hand you can read his book 'Bonfire of the Brands' as his is a very interesting story.

As a fashion student the chances are you have a mild form of OBD, it is basically and industry requirement so I thought about all the high end brands that I own:
1 Mulberry bag, 2 Luella bags, 1 Luella dress, 1 Luella skirt, 1 pair of Missoni shoes, 1 DKNY jeans coat, 1 PPQ dress, 1 PPQ cardigan, 1 pair of Alexander Wang shorts, 1 pair of Preen for Topshop shoes, 1 pair of Ashish for Topshop shoes, 2 pairs of UGGs, 1 pair of Hunters, 1 pair of vintage Calvin Klein shorts, 1 BCBG Max Azria dress, 1 House of Holland t-shirt, 2 pairs of HOH tights, 1 Michael Kors watch, 1 Pandora bracelet, 1 Tiffany's bracelet, 1 Swarovski ring, 2 pairs of Levi's, 1 pair of Prada glasses, 1 pair of Chanel glasses, 1 pair of Mochino glasses, 1 pair of Ray Ban glasses, 1 pair of Eley Kishimoto sunglasses and 1 Peter Pilotto for Kipling purse. Not to mention all the perfumes and cosmetics!

What does that say about me? I must say I can't argue with Neil, I think a lot of these items do define me as a person.

What do you own? How do the brands you buy in to define you, and how do they make you feel?
What is in your bag?
